Since April, we have been working with the synod on the calling of our next pastor. There are many steps that need to be taken before a new pastor begins their call here at Holy Trinity. Unfortunately, the call process is very time consuming - it is not as simple as picking a name from a list and hiring the person a week later! This is due to the goal of finding the best fit for a congregation. A pastor that fits well at one church may have the opposite experience at another. It is in the best interest of both the pastor and the congregation to find the best fit possible. Please read below for more information.
Communication is a vital part of the call process. Any updates will be announced in worship, posted in a newsletter or bulletin, as well as written here on the website. In general, updates will be given throughout the process. While the synod places an emphasis on confidentiality, we strive be as transparent as possible.
Over the past few months, a survey was sent out to all members. The results of this survey were compiled into a list of top things our congregation seeks in the next pastor. The questions ranged from what duties we would like a new pastor to cover, as well as how we envision the future of Holy Trinity to be. The Ministry Site Profile (MSP) is an in-depth 12 page document that provides the synod an oversight of our church including our community, characteristics and trends of our congregation, as well as the results of the survey that members provided. The completed MSP is used by the synod to determine what the needs of our congregation are and is the first impression pastoral candidates will see of our church.
As of the September, the synod office has received and is reviewing our completed MSP.
Members of staff and council will be meeting with synod staff to review the MSP as well as answer any questions the synod may have about our church.
As of September, there were nearly 40 pastoral vacancies in our region of Illinois with postings beginning in October 2019 on top of the over 400 vacancies throughout the country beginning in September 2019. The Covid pandemic has not helped speed up the process for us or any of the other local congregations. That being said, things in any church move slowly - we are not the only ones in the same position. As updates are made, this page will reflect any new changes.
A call committee is currently being established. If you are interested in being a part of this, please contact the church office.
The Call Committee is NOT a part of the church council. The committee is not responsible for salary or negotiation, but is responsible for reviewing candidates that are presented to find the best suitable candidate for our congregation. To dispel rumors and gossip, the synod places a strong emphasis on confidentiality amongst members of the committee.
Pray. The calling of a new pastor is a time of transition. Every church will go through it at some point in time - there is no way to avoid it. Know that despite the length of time this process takes, it is always moving forward. Many things are going on behind the scenes to ensure that the next pastor who is called to our congregation is a good fit for our spiritual lives.
